Complete fire hose reels include everything needed for installation in a single purchase — the reel drum, fire hose, shut-off nozzle, wall brackets, and all fittings. Unlike component purchases where individual parts must be sourced separately and compatibility confirmed, a complete assembly arrives ready to install. All models in our range are certified to AS/NZS 1221, the Australian standard for fire hose reels. From $240.

19mm vs 25mm Hose — Which Do You Need?

19mm hose is the standard for most commercial and residential installations under AS/NZS 1221. It delivers a flow rate suitable for containing fires in corridors, stairwells, and typical commercial floor areas. The smaller diameter makes the hose easier to handle and deploy, particularly in high-rise buildings where a single operator may need to run the hose under pressure.

25mm hose delivers a significantly higher flow rate and is used in industrial settings, warehouses, and larger commercial buildings where greater firefighting capacity is required. 25mm systems are heavier and require more water pressure — confirm your water supply and mains pressure can support 25mm before selecting this option.

Fixed vs Swing Arm Mounting

Fixed wall mount reels are secured directly to the wall. They are the most common installation type for corridors, plant rooms, and stairwells where the hose runs along a fixed path to cover the protected area.

Swing arm reels pivot outward from the wall, allowing the reel to be rotated through a wider arc — typically 180°. This is useful in open-plan spaces, car parks, and any installation where the hose needs to reach in multiple directions from a single mounting point. Note: swing arm reels require additional wall clearance for the arm’s rotation path.

Stainless Steel Models

Stainless steel fire hose reels are required in environments where corrosion is a concern — coastal buildings, food processing facilities, outdoor or semi-exposed installations, and car parks with salt exposure. The drum and bracket assembly are marine-grade stainless; the hose and nozzle remain standard. All stainless models are fully AS/NZS 1221 compliant.

Installation and Compliance Notes

  • AS/NZS 1221 — Product and performance standard for all fire hose reels sold in Australia.
  • AS 2441 — Installation standard. Governs mounting height (hose connection point 900mm–1200mm above floor), maximum coverage distance (36m hose covers approximately 30m floor area when accounting for hose lay), and signage requirements.
  • AS 1851 — Maintenance standard. Fire hose reels must be inspected and tested every 6 months by a licensed fire protection technician. Annual tests include a flow test under pressure.
  • Installation must be carried out by a licensed plumber or fire protection installer — water supply connection to the mains or a dedicated fire service line requires a licensed trades person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a complete fire hose reel include?

A complete fire hose reel assembly includes the reel drum, the fire hose (19mm or 25mm, 30m or 36m/50m as specified), a shut-off nozzle, wall mounting bracket(s), and all required fittings. Everything needed for installation — no separate components required.

How far does a 36m fire hose reel reach?

A 36m hose reel provides approximately 30m of effective coverage from the mounting point, once accounting for hose lay around corners and through doorways. Under AS 2441, the coverage distance from the reel mounting point must reach all points of the protected floor area within a single hose run.

Do I need a swing arm or fixed reel?

Fixed reels suit most corridor and stairwell installations where the hose runs in a consistent direction. Swing arm reels are preferred in open-plan areas, car parks, and anywhere the hose needs to extend in multiple directions from a single mounting point. Swing arm models require additional wall clearance for the pivot arm.

Can I install a fire hose reel myself?

No. Water connection to the mains or fire service line must be carried out by a licensed plumber. The reel mounting and compliance certification must be completed by a licensed fire protection installer under AS 2441. An unlicensed installation will not be accepted by building certifiers or fire inspectors.
