LED exit lights mark evacuation routes and emergency exits in commercial buildings, stairwells, and public spaces. Under the National Construction Code (NCC) and AS/NZS 2293, exit lighting is mandatory in most commercial, industrial, and multi-residential buildings. When power fails, exit lights must remain illuminated for a minimum of 90 minutes to guide occupants safely to exits.

Choosing the Right Exit Light

Battery Type

The battery is the most important factor in long-term reliability. Our range uses two battery technologies:

• NiCad (Nickel-Cadmium): The standard battery type for entry-level exit lights. Reliable and cost-effective for most commercial applications. 2-year warranty on NiCad models.
• LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate): Premium battery chemistry with significantly longer cycle life, faster recharge, and better performance over time. Recommended for high-use locations or where long service intervals are required. LiFePO4 models typically carry a longer warranty and lower lifetime maintenance cost.

Mount Type

• Surface mount: Mounts directly to a flat ceiling or wall. Most common for retrofits and new installations.
• Recessed: Sits flush into the ceiling for a cleaner finish. Requires ceiling cavity access during installation.
• Blade (maintained): Slim profile, permanently illuminated — ideal for modern commercial fitouts where aesthetics matter. Available in white and black finish.
• Wall mount: Mounts vertically on a wall. Suits stairwells, corridors, and doorframes.
• Weatherproof (IP65/IP67): Sealed enclosure for outdoor areas, car parks, loading docks, and industrial environments where moisture or dust is present.

Colour

Standard exit lights are white. Black finish models are available across the blade and maintained ranges for commercial fitouts with dark ceilings or premium interior finishes.

Viewing Distance

Standard exit lights are rated to 20 metres viewing distance. Our jumbo exit light model is rated to 40 metres — suitable for large open-plan floors, warehouses, and long corridors.

Compliance & Installation

Exit lighting must comply with AS/NZS 2293.1 (design and installation) and AS/NZS 2293.3 (product requirements). Emergency lighting must be installed by a licensed electrician. Testing and ongoing maintenance must be carried out by a licensed electrician or licensed technician in accordance with AS/NZS 2293.2.

What is the difference between a maintained and non-maintained exit light?

A maintained exit light is permanently illuminated during normal operation — it stays on at all times. A non-maintained exit light only illuminates when the mains power fails. Maintained exit lights are required in cinemas, theatres, and other venues where lighting levels are kept low. Non-maintained is suitable for most standard commercial buildings.

Do exit lights come with a bracket or wall mount?

Most surface mount models include all required mounting hardware. Adaptor plates for recessed models are available separately for installations where the new unit footprint does not match the existing cutout.
