Description

A 350mm x 13mm leather strap with buckle closure for fire hydrant landing valves. The buckle allows the strap length to be adjusted for a snug fit around the handwheel before being secured with a 003 padlock through the buckle frame. Used to prevent unauthorised rotation of the valve handwheel on fire hydrant landing valves and valve sets. Available in single units and bundles of 20.

The 13mm narrow buckle strap is lighter and more flexible than the 25mm punched strap variants. The 350mm length is the shortest in the buckle strap range — suited to standard residential and commercial landing valve handwheels where a shorter strap length provides the correct fit. For larger handwheels requiring more reach, the 450mm (LHS450) or 550mm (LHS550) versions are available.

Key Features

  • 350mm x 13mm — shorter narrow buckle strap for standard handwheels

  • Natural leather construction — durable and flexible
  • Use with: 003 Padlock (WC003KP or WC003KPL)
  • Single units; available in bundles of 20 and boxes of 100

Compliance & Installation

Install and inspect by a licensed fire protection contractor. AS 1851 annual inspection includes checking leather strap condition, buckle integrity, and correct padlock engagement. Replace any strap showing cracking, buckle deformation, or loss of flexibility. The padlock must be 003-keyed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where This Strap Is Used

  • Standard fire hydrant landing valve handwheels requiring strap restraint
  • Valve assemblies where a 350mm buckle strap provides the correct fit
  • Buildings where the fire protection specification calls for buckle-type leather strap locking
  • Replacement of worn or damaged buckle straps at AS 1851 annual inspection

What is the difference between the buckle strap and the punched strap?

The buckle strap (LHS350, LHS450, LHS550) is 13mm wide with a metal buckle that allows length adjustment and accepts a padlock through the buckle frame. The punched strap (LHS25450, LHS25600) is 25mm wide with pre-punched holes at set intervals — the padlock is threaded through one of the punched holes. The buckle strap provides a more adjustable fit; the wider punched strap provides a more robust restraint. Both are used with a 003 padlock. The correct type depends on contractor preference and the specific valve configuration.

How does the buckle accept a padlock?

The buckle has a frame with a bar through which the strap tongue passes. When the strap is threaded through the handwheel spokes and buckled to the correct tension, the padlock shackle is passed through the buckle bar and the strap tongue hole to lock the buckle closed. This prevents the buckle from being released without the 003 key.

Is the 350mm length correct for my landing valve?

The correct strap length depends on the handwheel diameter and the number of spokes the strap must thread through. The 350mm version is the shortest in the buckle range and suits standard commercial landing valve handwheels. If the strap is too short to thread through the spokes and buckle comfortably, use the 450mm (LHS450) or 550mm (LHS550) version. Your fire protection contractor will confirm the correct size for the installed valves.

How long does a leather strap typically last before needing replacement?

In a standard internal building environment, a well-maintained leather strap will last several years. Leather degrades faster in dry, UV-exposed, or outdoor environments. Inspect at every AS 1851 annual service and replace if the leather is cracked, stiff, or if the buckle is distorted. Regular inspection is the most effective way to ensure straps are always in serviceable condition.

Can I mix buckle and punched strap types across floors of the same building?

Yes — there is no requirement to use the same strap type throughout a building. Different landing valve configurations on different floors may have different strap requirements. The fire protection contractor’s specification for the building will identify the correct strap type and size for each landing valve position.
