Description

A plastic male plug for CFA fire hydrant landing valve outlets. Inserts into the female CFA coupling of a CFA-specification landing valve to seal the outlet from debris and moisture when not in use. A cost-effective consumable for routine maintenance and replacement in Victorian buildings located in Country Fire Authority (CFA) response areas. Sold individually and in packs of 30.

For a more durable metal alternative for the same CFA coupling, the CFA Brass Blanking Cap (HBCCFAB) provides the same outlet protection with longer service life.

Compliance & Servicing

AS 1851 annual inspection includes checking that all landing valve outlets have a correctly seated blanking cap or plug. Plastic plugs should be inspected for cracks, deterioration and correct seating. Replace any damaged or missing plugs at inspection. All maintenance by a licensed fire protection contractor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where This Plug Is Used

  • CFA landing valves (HHVCFARG, HHVCFABSP) in Victorian buildings in CFA response areas
  • Regional Victorian and outer metropolitan Melbourne buildings where CFA responds
  • Replacement of missing or damaged plastic plugs at AS 1851 inspection
  • Maintenance contractor stock for routine plug replacement across multiple CFA buildings

What is a male plug and how does it differ from a blanking cap?

A male plug has a male profile that inserts into the female socket of the landing valve coupling. A blanking cap fits over the outside of the coupling. Both protect the coupling from debris and moisture. For CFA couplings, the plastic male plug (HBCCFAM) inserts into the female CFA coupling socket, while the brass blanking cap (HBCCFAB) caps the outside. Your fire protection contractor will confirm which type is correct for the specific landing valve installed.

How often should plastic plugs be replaced?

Plastic plugs should be inspected at every AS 1851 annual service. Replace any plug that is cracked, split, deformed or no longer seating securely. Plastic is a consumable material — UV exposure, heat cycling and physical handling degrade it over time. Maintenance contractors typically carry replacement stock on the service vehicle so defects can be rectified in the same visit.

Is this plug specific to CFA or can it fit other coupling types?

The CFA Plastic Male Plug is designed for CFA-profile couplings. It will not fit NSW, MFB, QRT, BIC or SA landing valve outlets — each coupling standard has a specific geometry. Always match the blanking plug to the landing valve coupling type installed in the building.

Can I buy single units for a test fit before ordering a pack?

Yes — single units are available. If you need to confirm the coupling type before ordering in bulk, order a single unit first and have your fire protection contractor confirm the fit against the installed landing valves.

Are plastic plugs adequate for outdoor landing valve cabinets?

Plastic plugs are suitable for most installations, including landing valve cabinets with standard weather protection. For fully exposed outdoor locations with direct UV exposure, high heat, or coastal environments with salt air, the brass blanking cap (HBCCFAB) may provide better long-term durability. Your fire protection contractor will advise if the environment warrants an upgrade from plastic.
