Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose the 1.2m x 1.8m over the 1.2m x 1.2m?
The 1.8m length provides full upper-body coverage when wrapping a person — making it effective for both kitchen fires and person-on-fire emergencies. If your workplace or home has a need for personal protection capability (e.g. near open flame work, welding, outdoor cooking), the 1.2m x 1.8m is the better choice.
Can a fire blanket put out a cooking oil fire?
Yes — smothering a cooking oil fire with a fire blanket cuts off the oxygen supply and can extinguish the fire. Place it carefully over the pan without dropping it (which can splash burning oil). Do not remove the blanket until the pan has fully cooled. For commercial deep fryers, a wet chemical extinguisher is also required.
Can I reuse a fire blanket?
If it was used on a small fire and shows no visible damage, it may be reusable. Inspect carefully for burns, holes, or contamination. After any substantial use — particularly on a cooking oil fire — replace it. Never reuse a blanket that has been used to wrap a person on fire.
Where should I store a fire blanket?
Mount it on the wall near the kitchen exit — accessible but not directly above the cooktop or cooking area. Ensure all household members or staff know where it is and how to deploy it.
Does a fire blanket need servicing?
No periodic servicing is required. Inspect annually — check the canister is undamaged, the blanket is clean and intact, and the pull tabs are free and accessible. Replace after any deployment.
